Forty figures that differ in one thing only
A key at the top gives each position a color — the little square in the bottom-right corner is red, in the top-left yellow — and the page is that figure over and over. There is nothing to work out. The whole exercise is noticing which one is in front of you, and not drifting by the fourth row.

The position is the color.
A color-by-the-key worksheet generator, printable as a PDF. Pick the figure — a square in a corner, a circle on a side, a cut corner, a dome, a notch, a dot, a stripe, a flag or a circle with a dot — and 20, 35 or 48 figures, and generate. The four positions are dealt out evenly and never three of a kind in a row, and which position gets which color is drawn afresh for every sheet, so the second sheet cannot be colored from memory.

The key at the top gives that position its color.
Color
Every figure, right across the page, without drifting.
Figure
Square in a corner
The same figure over and over, its part in one of these four places. Which place gets which color changes every sheet.
Figures on the page
The smaller they are, the harder they are to tell apart — and the more coloring there is.
