What goes in, what comes out

A rule, a column of numbers and a column to fill — the first algebra, before anyone calls it that.

How it works
Ages6–10TypeMath

Use the rule on every number.

An input-output table generator, printable as a PDF. Six tables a page, three to a row, each with a rule over an arrow — +3, −12, ×4, ×2 +1. The three tables in a row share their numbers, and when adding or subtracting the rules are often related — +3, +13, +30 — so the row teaches place value too. Fill in the outputs, work backwards to the inputs, or find the rule from a few given pairs and finish the table. Rules go from adding within 20 to two-step rules within 1,000.
