Diamond mazes, because a straight edge gives too much away

A rectangular maze has four edges a child can follow with a finger. Turn it on its corner and the outline slopes away in both directions instead, which quietly removes the easiest way to cheat at one.

How it works
Ages5+TypeMazes

Turned on its corner, walls still square.

A diamond maze generator: the classic square maze stood on its corner, printable as a PDF. Pick a corridor width and generate. The corridors inside still run up, down and across — it is the outline that is turned, not the grid — so it stays as readable as the classic while looking nothing like it. In at the left point, out at the right, one route between them.
