Mazes with several ways out and one that is real

Every other maze answers itself: there is one hole in the far wall, so a child who finds any route has found the route. Put four holes there and three of them lead nowhere, and the only way to be right is to have actually followed it.

How it works
Ages6+TypeMazes

Four ways out, and one of them is real.

A many-exits maze generator, printable as a PDF. Pick a corridor width and generate. Three or four openings sit in the far wall and only one connects back to the arrow; the others open into sealed pockets of corridor that go a long way before they stop. The pockets are laid out before the maze is carved rather than cut out of a finished one, which is what makes them big enough to be believed — between a seventh and a fifth of the sheet is walled off behind a false exit. The star Mintee lost off his cap marks the true way out on the answer key, not on the puzzle.

A Many Exits Maze sheet
1

Start

At the arrow on the left.

2

Choose

Three or four openings sit in the outer wall. Nothing says which works.

3

Finish

The false ones run a long way, then stop. Follow the route, don't pick.

Path width

How much room the pencil has. The number of ways out barely changes; what changes is how far a child gets down a false one before finding out.
