Spiral mazes that wind in to the middle

Most mazes are a field of corridors. This one is a single coil wound in from the edge, with doors cut between one winding and the next — so the way on is sometimes to keep going round and sometimes to break through.

How it works
Ages5+TypeMazes

Following the coil will not get you there.

A spiral maze generator, printable as a PDF — one coil wound in to a star in the middle. Pick how wide the corridors should be and generate. The coil starts at the top corner and ends at the star Mintee lost off his cap, dead center. Following the winding all the way round will not get you there: doors between the windings open some routes and close others, and exactly one path reaches the middle.

A Spiral Maze sheet
1

Start

At the arrow where the coil begins, out at the edge.

2

Look

Doors are cut between one winding and the next. Some are the only way on.

3

Finish

Round and round misses the middle. Exactly one route reaches it.

Path width

How much room the pencil has. Narrower corridors mean more windings on the page and more places where the way on is to cut through to the next one.
