The numbers are all there. The steps are the puzzle

Most first math sheets ask for the answer, which a child can reach by counting on fingers and never look at again. This asks what was done — 4, then 9: how far was that? — so the same fact has to be held from both ends.

Which jump got you there?

A missing number worksheet generator, printable as a PDF. Pick numbers to 5, 10 or 20 and generate. Each row is a line of numbers joined by arrows, with a plus or a minus over every arrow and an empty box beside it. Every number in the row is printed, so a wrong answer in one box never spoils the rest of the line — a child can miss the third arrow and still get the fourth. Ten rows a sheet, new numbers every time, and the answer key fills every box.
