One rule, six numbers, and the pattern shows

Add 10 to 23, 47 and 81 in a row, and the ones digit stays put every time. A function table puts one rule against many numbers, so a child spots patterns like that without being told.

How it works
Ages7–10TypeMath

Take the number at the top, do the row's operation.

An operation grid worksheet generator, printable as a PDF. Three tables a page, each with six numbers across the top and four operations down the side; the child fills in every cell with the top number put through its row's operation. Two or three cells are filled in to start. Pick adding and subtracting up to 10 on numbers to 50, adding and subtracting tens and ones on numbers to 100, or times and divide with one add or subtract row — the numbers across the top are chosen so every division comes out whole. Nothing goes below zero, every table is new, and the answer key fills in the grid.
