Circle, cross, circle, cross…

A pattern sheet a four-year-old wants to finish is most of the battle. Four worms a page, each with its own face, its own curl and its own pattern of shapes to keep going all the way to its tail.

How it works
Ages3–6TypeLogic

Say the pattern, then draw what comes next.

A pattern worksheet generator, printable as a PDF. Four worms on every page, each body split into segments. The first segments show a pattern of shapes — circles, crosses, triangles, squares, hearts — and the rest are empty, for the child to draw the pattern on to the end. Pick how hard the patterns are: simple ones of two shapes (AB, AAB, ABB), medium ones with a third (ABC, AABB, ABAC), or tricky ones with four (ABCD, AABC, ABCB). Every worm on a page gets a different pattern, a different face and a different shape — back and forth, up and down, or coiled — and a new page draws them all again. The answer key fills every segment in.
