From smallest to biggest
Putting things in order by size comes before rulers: it is measuring by comparing. The harder levels bring the sizes closer, so the child has to compare neighbors, not just spot the biggest.

Find the smallest, then the next.
An ordering by size worksheet generator, printable as a PDF. Rows of the same picture — a carrot, a pig, a fish, a rocket, or a plain shape — in different sizes, out of order, standing on one line, with a box under each to number them; or pencils of different lengths to number from shortest to longest. Choose small to big or big to small, and three, four or five in a row; at the harder levels the sizes are closer together. The first row is done. New rows every time, with an answer key.
