Which color does line 3 end on?

Every line is the same color, so there is no shortcut: the eyes have to stay on one line through every crossing until it arrives. It is a focus challenge a five-year-old can do and a seven-year-old can still get wrong.

How it works
Ages4–8TypeFocus

One line at a time, all the way to the end.

A follow-the-line worksheet generator, printable as a PDF. A circle of tangled lines fills the page, with numbers round the left and colored dots round the right. The child follows each line from its number to the dot it ends on, then colors that number's circle in the row at the top. Pick 4, 6 or 8 lines. The lines are drawn in big loops that cross each other but never run alongside one another, so every one can be followed, and no number ends on the dot straight across from it. The colors are named beside the dots, so a black-and-white print works too, and the answer key colors the whole row in.

A Tangled Colors sheet
1

Start

At number 1, on the left of the circle.

2

Follow

Its line through every crossing — with a finger if it helps.

3

Color

Circle 1 at the top the color of the dot it ends on. Then number 2.

Lines

Every line is the same color, so the only way to know where it goes is to follow it. The colors are named, so the sheet works in black and white too.
